Androgens (hormones) stimulate the sebaceous glands and the hairs which grow from them. If your body produces too much androgen, or you are particularly sensitive to their effects the sebaceous glands may produce too much oil. The grease-glands then get blocked with oil and bacteria, and acne spots occur.
Your doctor can prescribe a course of oral antibiotics. These will kill the acne-causing bacteria on your skin. You will have to take them for about 12 weeks and you may require further courses if your tendency to acne persists.
