Differin +

Hi,

I have mild to moderate chin acne. I was on retin-a for six weeks and it wasn't working. My Dr. switched me to differin .3% + a salicylic acid wash + benzoyl peroxide 5%. Now my chin is bright red. Do you think this is too many products? Should I get a second opionion?

Thanks

Hi.
Differin is considered to be the most effective topical treatment, especially when used in conjunction with oral antibiotics. However, it should not be used at the same time as other products which dry or exfoliate the skin. It is also available as a 0.1% gel which will cause less unwanted side effects such as dryness and peeling. Use a bland cleanser until the irritation has settled, such as one by Eucerin, Lutsine or La Roche-Posay. Adapalen (Differin) is generally more effective and better tolerated than BP or salicylic acid, so I would just use this product. If you and your doctor feel you warrant additional treatment this should be an oral antibiotic such as lymecyline or oxytetracycline.
Eloise.
