Finasteride Or Spironolactone?

Finasteride Or Spironolactone?

I'm taking 200mg Spironolactone for it's antiandrogen effects, but have expercened a few side effects.
So is 5mg of finasteride a good alternative to 200mg spironolactone?

Thanks!

Not sure how to answer the question - but I was on spiro for about 6 months for acne and it made my acne significantly worse. I am 24, and I experience more severe break outs a week or so before my cycle. My acne has gotten significantly worse in the last year, particularly when taking spiro. My docs wouldn't switch me off it, so I eventually just stopped taking it because I could tell it was the medication making my skin worse.

I was experiencing painful cystic breakouts, particularly around my chin. Another side effect for me was that I saw a reduction in my breast size (which was great, because I have larger chest), but when I stopped taking it in Sept, my boobs grew back to the size they were before starting Spiro and my acne got much, much better. I have a lot of scarring now from spiro (and the topicals they had me on while taking spiro), but I am so happy I went off the medication.

If a medication isn't working for you and you've given it two months (especially if you see worsening of your acne) then you should try something else.  I know people who have had amazing results on spiro, minocyclin, clindomyacine, etc... but it doesn't work for everyone (and none have worked for me).

I am not just on a benzo wash, and it seems things are getting better (though not great - I still have acne and break outs around my cycle).  But really, pay attention to how you feel on a med and the effects it has, and switch if things don't feel right.

Good luck.
