Forehead acne

My daughter has bumpy acne on her forehead - noticed this on nearly all the girls her age who are playing sports. I have read about acne mechanica - but the girls do not wear headbands on their foreheads -nor do they have bangs.  The "look" is hair off the face and a small headband on the hair to keep everything neatly tucked away.  I thought that sweating may cause the acne - but these girls are using a salicylic acne wash after playing followed by benzoyl peroxide.  It just seems like such a prevelant problem.  Does anyone know of a treatment for this or is this something that will stay around until they stop playing sports?

Hi. Acne is caused by an excess of hormones (common during puberty) or a particular sensitivity to the effects of androgens (male hormones which occur in both males and female bodies).
There are more effective treatments than salicylic acid. Speak to your doctor about a synthetic topical retinoid like Differin gel. A course of oral tetracycline antibiotics may also be indicated if your daughter is over 12. If she is over 13 and has started her periods speak to your doctor about an anti-androgen pill such as Ortho Tri-Cyclen or Diane35.
Eloise.
