Has anyone used Solodyn + Differin???

Hi,

I just got back from the dermatologist today and was prescribed the oral medication Solodyn as well as the cream Differin to use at night...I was ALSO prescibed Duac Topical Gel to use during the day. Has anyone ever used any of these before? Are they any good? Did they work well for you? I am supposed to go back to see the doctor in 2 months...I hope my acne can clear up somewhat by then...my dermatologist said I could be a good candidate for accutane but then she said I would have to use two forms of birth control and get a pregnancy test every month! EVERY MONTH! Ugh! I don't think so! Well...I mean I guess I am going to try using taking Solodyn and using the two creams and see if it works for me...if not, I guess I can always get on accutane.

Hi. I hope this regime works for you. If not, you should consider Accutane. Because it causes malformations in 90% of exposed pregnancies, you will have to take the pill and use a condom whilst you are on it and for 5 weeks afterwards. You will also have to provide a urine sample every month so your dermatologist can check you are not pregnant.
Accutane leads to a long term remission from acne in 80% of patients after one course lasting 16 to 24 weeks.

Thank you for your advice...I am very hopeful that what I am using now will work for me.  I have taken the pill Solodyn for 5 days now and am going to start on my differin and Duac gels tonight.  I'm not sure if the pill could ALREADY be helping me but since I started taking the pill I have definitely noticed a reduction in the amount of inflammation on my face.  On both of my cheeks I was suffering from areas that consisted of clusters of pimples that hurt alot and were very inflammed...they have all gone down now and are practically GONE!  I still have a bunch of red spots and marks all over my face but most of the bumps on my face have gone down and I now just have a few here and there...It is SOOOO nice to see some smooth skin starting to appear on my face again! My dermatologist said that it didn't look like I had any scars on my face from my breakouts so that's a good thing.  I am looking foward to seeing if this medication i'm taking will continue to help me, it will be so nice to be free from the bad skin i've had lately.  Once again, thank you for all your advice!
