Hormones & Acne

I'm 27 and about a month ago, I started to get these weird hot flashes throughout the day and also during the night.  Does anyone know if this is related to hormones. I've read that hot flashes can signal hormonal changes.  On the good note, I haven't been having those hot flashes lately.

Well, the hot flashes made it really difficult to control my acne on my forehead, since the surge of the hot flash would make my skin produce more oil.  Anyway, I went to the doctor to check my hormone levels and he said nothing was wrong.  Could it be that the time when he tested my hormones, it was more normal.

It was just a weird experience to  have all those hot flashes at such a young age.  I was hoping that my acne was all hormonal or something.  I wish I can pin point it so that I can find some sort of way to control my acne the next time it flares up.

Acne can be hormonal, so it is good to know that your hormones are normal. It is also caused by bacteria and oil, so you could ask your doctor for a course of oral antibiotics or a topical treatment to control the oil like Duac gel, Dalacin-T or Differin. I'm glad your hot flushes have settled down but do return to the doctor if they occur again as they do sound unusual. Eloise

Thanks for your advice! =)

I went on Minocin and had to get off from them, and it was day 5. My GP was concerned that it could induce Lupus.  I had to take a blood test and check to see if I was okay. Everything was fine. The antibiotics worked, but soon after I got off from them, I could feel pimples again.  He gave me Stievamycin a form of Retin A to push out all the acne.  My face looked so horrible.  The Minocin caused the acne scars to turn purple! It was awful.  The Retin A was very irritating.

I agree that this is all bacterial.  My cheeks seem to be fine b/c I have combination skin.  My forehead is a great place for acne to live and multiply. =(

I went to buy some antibacterial face wash with the active ingredient Triclosan. I remember once breaking out and some lady at Clinique suggested to use this antibacterial soap. It really worked.  But, they discontinued the product for awhile and then I broke out again.  So, I'm hoping that this antibacterial soap will work wonders.  I really don't want to use any oral medication b/c the side effects I got were so bad. I felt like I couldn't function properly.

As for my hot flushes, I did mention this to my GP. And he said only a blood test can rule out anything. But everything came back normal.  So strange.

I believe Clinique still sell antibacterical soap (they may have just been repackaging it rather than discontinuing it) I also look on ebay for discontinued products. Clinique also make a foaming facial wash for blemish prone skin which i'm sure is as good as the soap. They even make a post-blemish formula to stop scars forming. Eloise
