How long should i wait to get pregnant after being on course of Roaccutane?

by KT1987, Jul 16, 2009 02:09AM
Hello Dr.,
I urgently need  to know how long i have to wait to get pregnant if i'm on a three months course of Roaccutane with 40mg a day. i started taking it on the 22nd of June 2009 and will hopefully stop 22nd september. And are there long term effects than can be of any danger on the fetus later on when i get pregnant? I really need to know, because if it will, i'll definetly stop taking it now.

Thank you!

You must use 2 forms of birth control whilst on Roaccutane and for 5 weeks afterwards, because unborn babies exposed to oral Isotretinoin are highly likely to be deformed. Once the 5 weeks has passed the drug will be out of your body and cannot harm pregnancies after this time.
Eloise.
