Interaction of Antibiotics and Birth Control Pills for Acne

by KRae81, Oct 08, 2008 12:06AM
I have been taking 1000 mg of Erythromicin daily for several years for my adult-onset acne (topical treatments haven't worked, I use only non-comodegenic products, I tried everything else).  It has worked well, however recent symptoms such as hair growth around my neck and chin (I'm a 26 year old woman) caused a doctor I saw to recommend Yaz birth control, for the acne as well as the hair growth.  She didn't have much advice about phasing out my antibiotics however, which I would very much like to do.  I've been on the pill for a week now.  Any advice on how quickly or even if I should begin taking less of my antibiotics?

Hi. Combined birth control pills should make skin less greasy and less prone to acne within about 8 weeks so you could stop taking Erythromycin after that.
It will take about 12 weeks to see a decrease in unwanted hair.
Eloise.
