Is it acne or not?

by kris2978, Feb 15, 2009 02:45PM
I have bumps on my face that are under the skin. There is no color to them they never turn red or get a head on them like acne. I have used all kinds of acne treatment, but nothing helps. What is it?

Acne spots can remain under the skin for months or even years without becoming inflammed. Acneic skin is usually oily with blackheads as well as spots. Acne doesn't usually itch, itchy bumps may be the sign of an allergy.
Which treatments have you tried? Over the counter products are of limited benefit for anything other than mild occasional acne. See your doctor for a definite diagnosis and an effective topical treatment. You may also warrant a course of antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice daily for 12 weeks. Further courses of topical or oral treatment may be needed if your tendency to acne persists.
