Large red bump under chin

Hello, I have a large red 'bump' growth beneath my chin that I am wondering about. It originated with my skin being cut there after slipping on some black ice about 6 weeks ago. It seemed to heal fine although it felt as though there was a little lump that would make a clicking noise when I rubbed it and was always slightly hard to the touch, but the flesh seemed to heal and whiten. My girlfriend is a nurse and suspected it was scar tissue, so I went along for a few weeks until I realized it might be a 'foreign object' trapped beneath my skin, and it has now begun to swell red. This looks like a subcutaneous infection/ furuncle. The hardness could be due to pus collection, organised inflammation or indeed a foreign body. You could try applying an OTC antibiotic ointment like framycetin over it and keeping the region clean at all times. If these measures do not seem to help, it is advised to consult a primary care physician or a dermatologist for appropriate management. Alternatively you could directly choose to see a primary care physician or a dermatologist.
