Long term side effects of Minocycline?

by ARLOO7, Sep 22, 2007 05:11PM
Hi. I'm in my early 30's, and have had mild to moderate acne since I was a teenager. I finally saw a dermatologist two years ago, and she prescribed minocycline. It works very well, my skin and scalp clear up a few days after taking two capsules per day.

I'm just concerned as to whether there are any long term side effects to these antibiotics, particularly if there is anything affecting the liver. My family has had a history of bad livers, so I really don't want to do anything that may initiate a liver disorder.

Your doctor can do blood tests to check liver function when taking acne treatments. It is not unusual to take antibiotics for up to two years but if your acne is now a lot better try changing to a topical treatment, i would recommend Differin.
