Mold & Acne

Hi, I have been having issues with ongoing acne breakouts for 2.5 years on my jawline and my upper back. The house we were living in definitely had mold issues...we recently moved (1 month ago) and I am noticing that my skin is clearing up. Could the mold exposure caused my skin to breakout? I haven't had any changes in diet, cosmetics, toiletries, detergents, etc.
Thanks!

Hi. Acne is not caused by mould. It occurs when the patient has a particular sensitivity to the effects of androgens. Androgens are male hormones found in male and female bodies. Androgens stimulate the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin. Bacteria on the skin feeds off this excess oil , blocking the pores and resulting in acne spots.
Acne is best treated by a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice a day and a topical retinoid such as Differin (adapalene 0.1%). Female acne patients will also benefit from taking the combined oral contraceptive pill since oestrogen blocks the effects of androgens.
There is a lack of medical evidence that any particular foods cause acne. Use a good cleanser for oily skin such as Estee Lauder's Sparkling Clean cleanser.
Eloise.
