Never had acne until 19, female, whiteheads on chin

Hi, I have never had acne until college and the only place I get it is on my chin.  There are lots of big whiteheads all over my chin and it all looks red and scarred from trying to pop them because they stay so long.  I tried lemon juice, but I don't notice an improvement.  What should I do?  Is birth control a bad idea?

Hi. The combined oral contraceptive pill will help acne since the oestrogen it contains will block the action of androgens on the skin. Androgens stimulate the oil glands in the skin, leading to acne. Certain brands such as Diane35 and Yasmin are particularly effective at clearing acne. Avoid the mini-pill, hormonal IUD or depot shot as these can make acne worse.
Lemon juice does not have anti-acne properties. See your doctor for an effective topical acne gel such as Dalacin-T or Duac gel.
