Nonstop Acne!

My face keeps gettin pimples and acne of all sizes! Ever since my acne started in fourth grade, it never stopped! I kept switching from treatments to other treatments after a while of using them because they had no positive effect on my skin. I used things like Proactive, The neutrogena handheld cleanser thing, MaryKay products, dermatologist products, NaturesCare, ect. They had no effect or made my skin worse! I went to a dermatologist a few months ago and I got a prescription of the acne medications called Cerave and Tazorac. I bought the Tazorac but I was too lazy to buy cerave. I only used the Cerave sample bottles until they ran out. So, I've been splashing water over my face, patting it dry, and just putting on the Tazorac cream. There's no sudden effect for a couple of long months! What do I do? I wish I have faces like my friends..all clear and no pimples!

Hi. Store bought treatments are of limited benefit and you were right to see a dermatologist. If you have used the Tazorac cream for 8 weeks or more without improvement you should see a doctor/dermatologist again. Taking an oral antibiotic like Oxytetracycline or Lymecycline in addition to your topical regime may be beneficial. Oral antibiotics should be taken for at least 3 to 4 months before being considering ineffective. It is better to persevere with one treatment than to constantly switch brands before one has had time to work.
