Roaccutane and Pregnancy afterwards...PLEASE HELP

I have very bad acne and recently went to a dermatologist. She prescribed me Roaccutane and said that this would help my acne. I am aware of the the problems that a child could have with an associated pregnancy. However, I am a newlywed and my husband and I do want children and plan children in about a year or two. I'm worried that my decision to take the prescribed medication will still have an effect once i'm off it. I don't want to do something that could have major consequences later. According to the brochure the drug should be out of your system, a  month after ending the therapy. Has there been any research done regarding prolonged effects and the birth of children. Please help. Would you recommend taking the medication or not? Thank you so much for your help!

Hi. You need to use two forms of birth control whilst on Roaccutane and for 5 weeks afterwards. After that the drug will have left your body and there is no risk to a pregnancy conceived after that time.
I would recommend Roaccutane if your acne has not responded to adequate courses of oral antibiotics and anti-androgen birth control pills (Dianette/Diane35). I have taken it if you would like to talk.
Eloise.
