Roaccutane

I already have the mirena coil and i have been put on Roaccutane! ! Was that a bad move by the dermatologist??

It doesn't happen to everyone, but acne-prone women may find that the mini-pill, depot shot or hormonal IUD make acne worse. Unless there is a certain reason for not using the combined pill (overweight, over 35, heavy smoker ??) then a combined pill containing oestrogen is better.
Androgens (male hormones found in both male and female bodies) stimulate the sebaceous glands which produce oil. If you have high levels of androgens or are particularly sensitive to their effects, too much oil may be produced. The glands then become blocked with excess oil and bacteria which feeds of the oil.
Accutane works by shrinking the sebaceous glands so they cannot produce too much oil. Oral antibiotics (which you have probably already tried) kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin. Combined oral contraceptive pills contain oestrogen which blocks the actions of androgens and a special pill called Dianette/Diane35 also contains an anti-androgen.
