Septra (Sulfamethox) Alterenate

Hi, my dermatologist recently placed me on Septra DS, one everyday, the first and second day were fine I began to see immediate results and my skin looked a lot clearer! But, shortly after my third dosage I began to feel symptoms like headache, nausea, sore throat, and for a short while like I might vomit ! I got straight on to the computer and started doing some research on the side effects of this medication, and yep all of these were listed, I'm not allergic to any medications but I think sulfa medicines just might be my first!
   I wanted to know if their were any other medications, just as good, where I can get the same results, but just without these side effects!


p.s. I have already tried doxycycline! No luck!

Hi. There are lots of useful acne treatments other than doxycycline. Other effective oral antibiotics are Oxytetracycline or Erythromycin. It is unrealisitc to expect results within days, you must take these medications as presctribed for at least 8 weeks.
The most effective topical acne gels are Differin, Duac gel and Dalacin. Discuss the features and benefits of each with your doctor.
If you are female, taking Diane35 (cyproterone acetate) will help.
