Should I use Accutane

by branko999, Sep 04, 2009 03:28PM
I am 18 years old. I have acne since my 14. But around 15 and 16 I got acne called acne conglobata. There are many on my back and chest but 1 year ago they appeared on my chin. Last three months I am in dilemma with Accutane because there are many people that say it is very dangerous even if the blood tests are ok. Please tell me if there is something else than accutane or should i start using it if the blood tests are ok.

I say go for it. Accutane has been a god-send for my skin. I would advise anyone to use it as long as you are under a doctor's supervision and, if you're a female, make sure you are using 2 forms of birth control if you are sexually active. I am about to start my second month of Accutane and my skin has improved dramatically. I am practically clear, and I'm not even half-way through my course yet.

I used to have very severe acne (also like you, since I was 14) and nothing, and by nothing I mean NOTHING worked for me. I tried everything and Accutane was a last resort for me. If you go to your derm and ask him for it right away and explain to him that you are aware of all of the side effects and still want to go through with it, there should be no reason for him not to prescribe it to you.

For me, the side effects have been very minimal. I'm on my second month and all I've experienced are dry lips and just recently (about two days ago) cracks at the corners of my mouth. I've been feeling a little fatigued lately, but I'm not sure if that is Accutane-related or not. Aside from that, everything has been perfect. *fingers crossed*

I wish you the best of luck on your quest for clear skin! I know how tough it is to battle acne, but hang in there and you will be clear in no time. :)

Accutane can cause many side effects, but that must be balanced against the fact that it is the most effective acne treatment available. I have taken Accutane, please see my pictures and read my journal.
