Skin easily irrated by shaving

Skin easily irrated by shaving

I am 21 years old, I work in a diesel shop around all kinds of dirt, grease, and grime. I do not have a very healthy diet, am stressful, and I smoke.

My job requires me to shave daily. I have been at my current job for two years, and before this I never had a problem with breakouts or irritation, however, it is almost a daily thing now that I wake up with a blemish on my skin (generally, this occurs on my chin).

I have tried all kinds of different products, including different face washes, shaving creams, soaps.. none of it seems to work.

Is there an advice anyone can give me as to what to try?

Hi. Diet has not be proven to affect acne. Acne is seldom a reflection of your diet, personal hygiene or lifestyle.  Acne is caused by elevated levels of, or a particular sensitivity to the effects of androgens (male hormones which are present in both male and female bodies). Androgens stimulate the sebaceous glands which produce sebum (oil). Working in an environment where you are exposed to grease will make this worse (occupational acne). Bacteria on the skin plus this excess of oil leads to spots.
See your doctor for a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline or a topical synthetic retinoid like Differin.
As for avoiding irritation after shaving, I recommend using a clean razor each time and a good quality shaving gel such as King Of Shaves. After patting the area dry with a clean towel, apply Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream or Vaseline to the area to avoid irritation.
Eloise.
