Tetracycline after Accutane

by Hirshoi, Oct 05, 2009 06:46PM
Hi there,

I am a 26 year old male. I was suffering from moderate to severe acne since I was 15. I was using all sorts of products. After 11 years of trying product to product and doctor's visits, I had enough and decided to have a talk with my doctor about Accutane in May 2006. I was on Accutane for about 6 to 8 months and the results were UNBELIEVABLE. I gained my confidence back and was very happy. But now for the last few weeks (2009) I' ve been getting some major pimples (red and pus filled) on the left side on my face down to under my chin with a couple of blackheads. Now I am planning to return to my dermatologist and have him examine my face. But the thing is, the acne that has returned is not so severe that I actually have to go on Accutane once more and besides, I don't want to go through those intense side effects again ( heavily dry skin and chapped lips that became irritated). Now my question is, seeing that I don'thave the severe acne and probably don't HAVE to go on Accutane once again, is it a good idea to try another oral medication like "Tetracycline" that maybe would 'fix' the problem that is now persisting on my face, that also has less intensive side effects in comparison with Accutane?

Please let me know! In desperate need ofm some answers

Thanks

It might just work, i know i was talking to my doctor about the same problem he said after accutane your skin changes a lot and your pores become smaller and a treatment such as Tetracycline could just work for you. My pimples actually did get smaller after accutane so i tried doing the same thing, didnt work for me only because i didnt think that it would work so i never took the medications but id say you could try it especially if you say that your acne has gotten better, and if you dont want to deal with all those side effects
