Tetralysal works?

Tetralysal works?

Hi, have moderate acne on my back, nothing too major and less often (once ofr twice a week on my face, although these are more nodular, and much larger and harder, a lot deeper in the skin which cause big lumps.
Have been on Tetralysal for aboutt 2.5 months now, seeing no improvement in fact have been a bit worse lately.
Is this normal, the body rejecting the toxins before it gets better, or is it just not working?
Have also goven up smoking for 3 months now, and drinking water everyday, people tell me this is causing this outbreak as well, the body detoxing from the smoking.  Is this linked, or do I need a new medication?
Cheers.

Hi. Oral antibiotics such as Tetracyclines usually clear acne within about 12 weeks although this does vary between patients. If you have seen no improvement after this time your doctor may add a topical retinoid such as Differin (adapalene 0.1%) to your regime. If you are female you may also warrant treatment with a special birth control pill called Diane35 (Dianette in the UK) which blocks the actions of androgens- the hormones responsible for acne.
Don't give up, it is usually better to stick with one antibiotic for a fair trial than to switch brands before its has a chance to work. It is also true that acne can get worse before it gets better, as unseen pimples come to the surface because of the medication.
Eloise.
