Wait Time for Laser Treatment for Acne Scars

My son is a senior in high school and he completed a second course of Accutane 4 months ago and he finally stopped breaking out. He has fully recovered from the dry skin and other typical/visible side effects from the medication. We are now dealing with the acne scarring. He has moderate to severe crater type scarring on both cheeks and temple areas. I have done some research and we want to try laser treatment to help improve the scarring. We have seen a derm doc and he recommended Fraxel laser treatment and said that we could reasonably expect about a 50% improvement in the scarring.

My question is how long do we have to wait after stopping Accutane treatment before starting this laser treatment ?

If the answer is at least 6 months can you explain why so I can explain it to my son since he wants to start right away?

He must wait 6 months as it says in the instructions. This is because accutane has a long half life which means it stays in your body when you stop taking it. If you have laser treatment less than 6 months after stopping accutane you risk irritation and scarring. Give my love to your son, i've taken accutane twice too. love eloise xx
