What is happening to my skin?

I've never really suffered from acne. All of a sudden I am now battling acne and what seems to be ingrown acne and blackheads. I don't understand why this is all of a sudden a problem. I'm in my early thirties, eat well. and use a facial daily cleaning routine. What can be causing this?

do you exfoliate frequently?  what type of skin do you have?  what parts of your face do the breakouts frequently appear?

Adult acne is becoming increasingly common and medical evidence shows that it is not linked to diet. Androgens (male hormones found in both male and female bodies) stimulate the sebaceous glands which produce oil. If too much oil is produced the glands become blocked with oil and bacteria, which feeds off the oil.
Continue with your cleansing routine but avoid moisturiser unless you have dry patches on your skin. Cleansing alone will not heal acne, so see your doctor for an effective topical treatment such as Duac gel (contains Clindamycin and Benzoyl peroxide). Your doctor may also consider that you warrant a course of oral antibiotics.
Are you female? (Sorry cannot tell from your post). If so, have you changed your method of birth control recently? Women prone to acne may benefit from taking a combined birth control pill as oestrogen blocks the actions of androgens. Avoid the mini-pill, depot shot and hormonal IUD all of which can cause acne.
Eloise.
