Will scars fade on their own over time?

by Kyonko, Nov 07, 2009 08:55PM
Hi.  I'm 16 years old and have been suffering from moderate acne for the past 2 years.  My active acne has been brought to control at a mild level, but there are visible indented scars on both sides of my cheeks along with lingering red marks.

I heard that when red marks heal, most of the indents will also be raised along with them, and was wondering if this was true.  My family has a long history of acne but according to my mom, her scars will always fade over time.

Staying hopeful,
Tony

Hi. Your Mom's right -the majority of acne scarring fades on its own over time. Ask your doctor about Retin-a (topical tretinoin) which treats both active acne and fades scars.

Thanks for the reply.  Isn't Retin-A only good for fading red marks?  I don't think it does anything to heal indented scars does it?  Correct me if I'm wrong.
