accutane and prednisone

i'm in my second month of accutane at 80 mg's a day, i started at 40 and right away i noticed it helped clear my acne greatly, however when i was bumped up to 80 mg's the second month, my acne started flaring up a bit, so the doc gave me 20 mg's of prednisone a day except he told me to take it for an entire month..i've been taking it for 2 weeks now and i gotta say it cleared up my face greatly, however i am starting to notice that i am flaring up a bit again..and i read that if taken for a long time it can actually make acne worse....so my question is how much longer should i take it for and if i were to stop taking it tomorrow, would there be a chance that my acne come back for a while?

Follow your doctor's instructions and do not alter your dosage without checking with him.
Acne does flare up at the start of accutane, and when the dose is raised. This is an expected side effect and a sign that your medicine is working. Be patient, at around 12 weeks you will see no new lesions and by 16-20 weeks your skin should be clear. Accutane is statistically the best drug for achieving a long term remission from acne. My son did 5 months of accutane and his skin did get worse at times during the treatment. He has been off it about 7 months now and his skin is beautiful. He had no side effects from it other than the really dry skin and lips but that goes away after a couple months, he also wears contacts so we got the Oasis and they were wonderful. It took me a long time to make my mind up to put him on it but it is a wonder drug. He is almost 17 and was on it when he was first 16 I think. It's great you'll do fine just give the full 5 months and then it may take a few months after the treatment but it will work:-)
