accutane and scarring

by tbucket, Nov 06, 2008 04:44PM
Hi:
I am a 42 yr old male with a long history of acne.  I have been on tetracyclines for the past three years, and was frustrated by their lack of consistency-too many flare-ups.  Recently I got myself on accutane for the first time.  I have been on it for 5-6 weeks now.  Two months before gpoing on the accutane I had a Fraxel laser treatment for acne scarring.  My question is this:  The accutane seems to be preventing many flareups and I am grateful for that.  UNFORTUNATELY, the pimples I am getting are NOT healing or at least most are not.  Many have remained for a month.  They appear to be scars.  Similar to what I have on my back from my twenties. I am VERY worried, as I have never had on my face before-just the pitting type of scarring.  What should I do?  My main question is this I guess: Has accutane caused this in the past in other people???  Should I discontinue it??  What is the problem?  Any advice GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim
