accutane

I am 15 and I've had acne since I was around 8. My ance includes cysts, blackheads, pustules, and some papules. I have tried many many products and non seem to work! I'm now considering accutane. Is accutane safe for a 15 year old and will my weight be a problem ( I'm 93 lbs )?

Accutane is usually the last resort because it can have some side affects.  It also requires that you have monthly bloodwork.  My son used everything under the sun to get rid of his acne and had to finally do the accutane.  His skin is beautiful and it should stay that way after you finish the treatment which was about 3 months.  He is 17.  The dematologist will let you know if there is a problem with your weight as far as taking the medication.  It may be that you take less of a dose but I really don't know for sure.

Good luck!

hi, I doubt a lot of dr.s will give it to u because it causes birth defects and u can get pregnant and not old enough to decide etc.
  . . but maybe
. . .  that said; try this; probiotics at a vitamin store and ultra high culture counts daily 200 billion daily for a month, cut in half for month, stop at 25 billion daily, NOW IF U TAKE ANTIBIOTICS U MUST SEPARATE TIME OF DAY BY 3 HRS.
have u tried antibiotics, 1000-mg daily tetracycline
have u tried topical antibiotics like Metro Gel (will not interfere w/probiotics)

It will cause very bad birth defects.  When you sign on to do accutane, and your parents would have to be willing as well, you get this card called an iPledge card.  You read the booklet they give you and you pledge that you are going to follow all the "rules" of taking accutane like following through with the bloodwork, NOT getting pregnant, etc.

If they did not prescribe it for girls, then this stuff wouldn't be in the booklet.  But if you are already sexually active, then the chance it too great and I would look for some other avenue to help with the acne.

Because Accutane can cause severe birth defects, including mental retardation and physical malformations, a woman must not become pregnant while taking it. If you are a woman of childbearing age, your doctor will ask you to sign a detailed consent form before you start taking Accutane. If you accidentally become pregnant while taking the medication, you should immediately consult your doctor. Thanks
