i have very bad ackney on my back, it has spread to my shoulders, i am currently on anti biotics for it but they dont seem to be doing much, what could be the cause for these spots?

Hi. Acne patients have high levels of androgens, or a particular sensitivity to the effects of androgens. Androgens are the hormones which stimulate the sebaceous glands. If too much oil (sebum) is produced the glands become blocked with oil and bacteria.
Oral antibiotics work by killing the acne-causing bacteria on the skin. They usually have to be taken for 8-12 weeks before results are seen. If you don't get results after this time your doctor may prescribe you a topical retinoid such as Differin (adapalene 0.1%) to use in addition to the antibiotics.
Female acne patients may also benefit from taking the combined birth control pill as Oestrogen blocks the effects of androgens.
