acne on chin and below mouth

by slik1, Apr 18, 2008 12:11PM
Hi i am 21 and have suffered from acne for about 6 years. I currently take minocycline (for about 8 months now) and use benzoyl peroxide nightly (for about 2 years) on the affected area,, which seems to be only below my mouth and on my chin. My acne seems to be under control in other areas e.g my back, but recently i tried to stop using benzoyl peroxide and have now got large cystic breakouts on my chin area....so have started using bp again. Could it be that the minocycline is no longer effective or that benzoyl peroxide has made my skin dependant on it?? Or could it be that a hormonal inbalance is the underlying problem of it all? Does anyone have a simillar problem and knnow how to go about it? Thanks

Hi. A regime of both topical and oral medications may be necessary for as long as you are prone to acne. Is there a particular reason that you want to come off BP? If it is irritating you, you could change to Duac gel (BP mixed with clindamycin) or Differin.
