acne post birth control pills

by merkitty86, Oct 29, 2008 01:02AM
Hi, I'm 22 year old female. After two years, I stopped taking birth control, which was very basic (microgestin 1/20) and now I cannot get rid of acne and acne scars. I'm very embarrassed with my face, nothing helps (not even proactiv), I tried everything. Please help. I really don't want to go back on birth control.

thank you in advance

This is a common problem. Combined birth control pills are very effective at preventing acne, but are not the only solution.
Ask your doctor about the benefits of taking an oral antibiotic such as Oxytetracycline or using a synthetic retinoid gel such as Differin. A 12 weeks course of these medications should clear your acne.
Eloise.
