antibiotic resistance

My son has been prescribed something called tetralysal 300mg (lymecycline 408 mg, equivalent to 300mg tetracycline base) for his acne and told to take one daily for a few months.
I am worried that this might create a resistance to antibiotics for him and possibly cause problems if he were to have a serious condition that required antibiotics.
I am also worried about the potential harmful effects of long-term antibiotic use.
He is 15.
Is this a typical treatment for acne?
Should I be concerned about either the antibiotic resistance problem or the potential side-effects of taking an anibiotic daily for a few months?
Thanks for any advice.

I am no doctor but, I am taking an antibiotic. Like your son, they tend to provide this sort of stuff for acne. The other alternative is stuff like proactive or anything with BP in it. Have him cycle the antibiotic. The body builds up immunity to it after awhile so, I have been told and the same applies with creams. Is he on a cream as well? Proactive like most store bought acne creams contain around 2.5% BP whereas, topical creams contain 5%. There are ones out there that are like 10% in extreme cases. For cystic acne, your best bet is accutane. Its a ******* nightmare. I am in my early 20s and unfortunately, my parents never took me to a dermatologist. It causes severe psychological damage to the mind of both guys and girls. I've shied away from dates, from social events, parties, and all sorts of events young guys would love. In terms of sex, it wasn't till the last couple of years that I began actually having sex. Its a nightmare. I've cut back on all junk foods or anything high in fat or sugar. Still, I am unfortunately struggling from acne, inflamed pimples or cystic acne at times such as now. I will say, the antibioitic and topical cream has been a god scent. Nothing has been as helpful to date then these. Sadly, I am scared there will be immunity to it and therefore, I will need to switch to accutane or something. Worse, I have no coverage.
