can my toddler have acne?

My son is 2 1/2 and he has little pimples all over his cheeks.  He's kinda always had pinkish, sensitive skin on his face.  But he really just looks like he has acne on his cheeks.  It's always there, sometimes less or more than usual, but it doesn't go away... I don't think he's ever had clear skin.  I am 26 and I still deal with my own acne problems, and my father had very bad skin too, so I worry about my son.  Is there anything I can do for him right now?

I know there is such a thing as baby acne (see link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baby_acne) Whether or not there is a type for toddlers or if it is related, I'm not sure. Make sure you mention it to his pediatrician.

My son suffers from childhood acne too.
This should never be ignored as an underlying hormonal condition may be causing the problem. Ask your doctor to refer your son to an endocrinologist. My son saw an endocrinologist who tested his urine for hormones. She also did a wrist x-ray to check for bone density.
She concluded that my son wasn't having a true early puberty because his hormone profile was within the normal range. This was a relief to me, and I'm glad I took him to have the tests done.
