Hi Cathy. You are probably currently using either Dalacin-T (Clindamycin) or Duac gel (Clindamycin with BP). Ask your doctor about changing to Differin, if a topical treatment suits you, as this may be more effective.
Alternatively, you might consider an oral treatment. This type of acne, known as peri-oral dermatitis responds well to oral oxytetracycline. Female patients may also find cyproterone acetate, contained within the anti-androgen contraceptive pill Dianette, helps. If your doctor decides you warrant both oxytetracycline and Dianette, use a condom as there is a small risk that antibiotics may lesson the contraceptive properties of the pill.
Don't pick at your spots this will spread the bacteria and lead to more spots. Don't give up clearing your acne scars, microdermabrasion or laser therapy will help. Loiloi xx
hi and thankyou so much for ur post to me ,i really appreciate it.im currently taking zinryt topical soloution which helps to an extent as drying them up but still looks awful.my gp did prescribe me dianette but im terrified of side effects.they also gave me some kind of oral antibiotic to take for 6 months i didnt take them either as im again terrified of side effects.im on diazepam 2mg 1 a day have been over a yr now so u can understand my fear.thanks in advance.x
Hi. I've taken Dianette and oxytetracycline (oral antibiotic) for acne. Both are widely prescribed and serious side effects are rare. Your doctor will have made sure these medicines are right for you before prescribing them. Dianette may not be suitable for patients over 35, patients who are very overweight or who are heavy smokers. Your doctor will have discussed these contra-indications with you and will regularly monitor your blood pressure and liver function throughout treatment.
I suffer from depression and anxiety too and feel this is linked to acne. The more acne I have the more stressed I feel, and the more stressed I feel the worse my acne gets.
Please trust your doctor- the medicines he has prescribed for you are very helpful in clearing acne and peri-oral dermatitis.
If you still feel a topical gel is more appropriate for you at this time I recommend Differin. I have sensitive skin too, and use gentle a gentle cleanser and moisturiser by Roche-Posay to prevent dryness or irritation whilst using topical acne medication. I also use the foundation by Roche-Posay to cover imperfections and make me feel better about myself. These products are available from Boots, or online. Love Loiloi xx
