diane 35

i have been on diane 35 for over five years now,my acne is somewhat controlled.i have read horror stories that people coming off diane 35 get cystic acne worse than before they started this treatment have yu had any success with your patients coming off and no acne afterwards? also i had a bout of pityrosporin follicutis that is controlled with diet and blue light therapy,do you think diet playsa role in acne or does candida in the stomach cause more breakouts?
please respond i am sooooooooooooooooooooooo depressed from diane 35 i need to come off but if my acne gets worse i'm afraid it will make the depression worse.
thanks alot

Hi. It is recommended that Diane35 is withdrawn 3-4 months after your acne has cleared. It does not 'cure' acne so patients may need repeat course of that, or a different medication for as long as they are prone to acne.
You are right to consider a different treatment if you experience depression on diane35.
Alternatives, if your ance returns, include oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline or topical retinoids such as Differin, discuss these with your doctor.
There is no conclusive evidence that diet affects acne. However, if you are prone to hormonal acne I would avoid too much cow's milk, cheese, cottage cheese etc. Replace it with Soya milk. Eloise x
