extremely oily skin and bumps on my face

by ginger885, Jun 21, 2009 06:09PM
I am 50 years old and have extremely oily skin. It seems to be getting worse as I age.  I have had large bumps (they look like pimples) on my forhead for years.  A dermatologist told me a long time ago they were from the oil.  They are always there and have never gone away.  Now I am starting to get them all over my face.  They are not pimples.  I tried squeezing them and nothing comes out of them.  I don't know what they are or what to do about them, but I soon feel like I don't even want to go out of the house.  My face is oily, shiny and sticky half an our after I wash it, and by the time I get to work in the morning, I have to start powdering my face.  My face almost feels like it burns...or like when you go inside after being outside in the cold.  I am so tired of so many years of this and trying so many different products that do nothing for me.  What can I do?  Is there any hope for me?

What products have you tried? Did the dermatologist give you a diagnosis of adult acne?
The standard treatment is oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline or Lymecycline and a topical retinoid such as Differin (Adapalene 0.1%).
If this results in failure or relapse, oral Isotretinoin (Accutane/Roaccutane) can permanently shrink the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin.
Eloise.
