by ZOZO84, Sep 08, 2008 04:30PM
Hi thank you so much for your information....I think I will def vsit my gp because i would like to finaly enjoy clear skin ....I am very happy about the cost on the NHS ....do you by any chance know the average time ppl waite to see a dermatolgist  and get on to the medication.( average month) because i am worried my acne will get worse if i leave it for a long period of time and i am constantly debating if  the best thing is to go private.Any information in regard to private cost as well as NHS waiting would be much appreciated. One more question would be how long does treatment last on accutane .
thankyou

Hi. Roaccutane (as it is called in the UK) should be taken for between 16 and 24 weeks. It depends on where in the country you live but I was phoned by the hospital to arrange an appointment after 6 weeks. I was then seen quickly because I agreed that medical students could sit in on my appontment.
I don't know how much private treatment costs but will look into it for you.

Hi. 28 days supply of 30mg Roaccutane, on a private prescription, costs £70. Hope this is useful.

No problem. I would definately stay on the NHS waiting list if you go private. I had to take 2 courses of Roaccutane to get a remission from acne (most people only need one) so it is wise to have a back up plan. The second time I took Roaccutane I was under the care of a Nurse-led team. I only saw the consultant dermatologist at the beginning and the end, and saw a Nurse Practioner for my regular check-ups. This reduced the waiting time. I see you live in London and am sure the hospitals near you are even more efficient than here (Bristol).
I wrote a Roaccutane journal and posted pictures of the results. Check out my profile.
