hormones and acne

I get acne around that time of month and was wondering if there is anything I can try to prevent the acne. Though I am not allowed to go on any type of hormonal treatment as it can cause other medical complications, so does that leave me with any options? Right now, I'm just dealing with it, and it's not too bad, but I'd like to get clear skin and keep it that way all of the time.

Hi. Dianette/Diane35 is the usual pill prescribed for hormonal acne. However, if you cannot use this medication I recommend asking your doctor for Duac gel or Differin gel.

If it is acne from inflammation (as we're more prone to inflammation at that time of the month) you could try something like Evening Primrose Oil to decrease inflammation.

I was once on a diuretic for acne and it was supposed to shrink my oil glands. It seems like if we retain more water at that time of the month that could be part of the hormonal acne (part, but not all definitely).
