jawline and neck acne

Over the last few years I have developed neck and jawline acne.  I never had many acne problems (even in high school) I never had bad acne.  Now that I am 35 this acne is very concerning because it is persistent and ugly.  I am told that I have folliculitis but I am worried that it could also be the result of a STI?  Any way to get rid of it?  It is definitely hurting my self esteem and causing stress.

Hi. Adult acne and late-onset acne are becoming increasingly common. Acne is seldom a symptom of a serious underlying condition, and it is unlikely it is the result of an STI.
Over-the-counter remedies are of limited benefit so see your doctor for a course of oral antibiotcs such as Oxytetracycline, and a topical retinoid such as Differin (Adapalene).
If such standard treatments result in failure or relapse your GP can refer you to a dermatologist for Roaccutane (oral Isotretinoin) the strongest acne medication available.
Eloise.
