Ugh, I hate those! I had one 6 months ago - took over a month to come to a head. I applied a hot face cloth to it several times before popping it and gently got the gunk out - but now it's a scar. I hate it, it's bright red little dot and (I think) it looks like some sort of permanent cold sore or something (I've never had one, but I would think that's what it would look like). My dermatologist had told me to leave it alone - but when it turned into that big white head, I just couldn't!! But be careful with applying some acne creams, they can be toxic if swallowed. And if it is itchy - it can still be a zit not a cold sore, I have mild acne - but it itches like crazy sometimes!
