mild acne

i am 21 and have mild acne. In the past two weeks i have been using panoxyl gel. This has left my skin dry and red. is this product best for me? as i am concerned about the long term effects of using the product, as i have heard that coming off the product can result in a big breackout. i also have sensitive skin.

would freederm lotion be more benifical product for me?

Hi. i know we spoke via private message but I will answer this on the forum for other readers.
Don't be put off by initial redness when using a new topical product. Start by using the product three times a week and gradually increase to every day use. Rebalance fragilised skin by using a gentle skincare regime like Eucerin, Lutsine Hydrafnia or La Roche-Posay. However if symptoms continue or you develop an allergic reaction you should discontinue use of the product and see your doctor.
I often recommend Freederm (nicotinamide) to clients who cannot access prescription medicine due to lack of insurance or no GP. However, it is not as effective as prescription gels such as Duac (BP and Clindamycin) or Differin (0.1% adapalene).
If your skin is too sensitive for topical meds, talk to your doctor about a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline or Lymecycline. Female acne patients will also benefit from taking a combined or anti-androgen contraceptive pill such as Diane35/Dianette or Ortho Tricyclen (Cilest). Avoid the mini pill, depot shot and hormonal IUD if you are prone to acne as they may make it worse.
