minocycline

ive been taking adapalene 1% and a 50mg capsule of minocycline once a night for about 4 weeks now. the doctor said the minocycline was supposed to "calm the acne down" but ive seen little improvement. ive also seen that other people are one higher dosages of minocycline (100 mg). will uping my dosage change anything and are there any sort of side effects? i am an athlete but i keep my face clean most of the day. is there something i can do differently to keep the breakouts to a minimum that i dont know about?
