oily skin yasmin

Hi, about 6 months ago i started to get adult acne. I then started getting really oily skin. I went to my doctor and was given Yasmin as nothing else prior to that worked. I have been taking it now for 6 weeks and my acne has cleared but my skin is still oily. I have never had oily skin before and it is so difficult to deal with. When will Yasmin start to work & help my oily skin?

Hi. Yasmin blocks the action of acne-causing male hormones on the skin. It is a good choice for women when other treatments have failed. Each patient varies but you can expect oily skin and acne to resolve within 3-6 months.
You can use oral antibiotics in conjunction with Yasmin if necessary, but use a condom as antibiotics may lessen the contraceptive properties of the pill. Alternatively your doctor can prescribe a topical skin lotion (Differin, Duac etc) to use as well as Yasmin.
There is a stronger anti-androgen contraceptive pill called Diane35 (Dianette in the UK) but this is not available in all countries.
Use a good cleanser for oily skin. My favorites are Effaclar by La Roche-Posay and Sparkling Clean by Estee Lauder.
