Hi. Products available to the public, such as Proactive, are of limited benefit and may cause excessive dryness. See your doctor for a course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice daily to kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin. Also ask for a topical retinoid gel called Differin which is very effective and generally well tolerated.
Female acne patients will also benefit from taking a combined oral contraceptive pill such as Diane35 or Yasmin. The oestrogen these contain block the actions of androgens (male hormones like testosterone) on the skin.
Eloise.

Do not use acne medications, all the cremes will dry out your face and make you look ugly.. Excuse me for saying that but I have experience too.

Plus when you put on make up after the acne creme it will dry out your face too. (even worse) Use moisturizing make up (it will not cause pimples)

You are going to need to use a moisturizing face wash 1-2 times daily. DO not use lotion. You can try a little vacaline and it works VERY well. You can also try regular face wash like Noxzema face wash, the old kind does not dry out your face if you use a little (unless you have severely dry skin)

Most lotion will break out your skin worse.

Do not use Proactive, I hate the stuff. It is expensive and doesn't help. You will not only have pimples but you will have dry skin. Plus when you put make up on it, your make up will cake up and make it looks so ugly....

I recommend using a moisturizing face wash and a moisturizing face cream ans YES you can buy some that helps ACNE. (but also moistuizes)

You don't want dry skin... Also do not use make up for a while.. Please because makeup will ALSO dry out your skin.

If you must use make up, use the kind that has moisturizing ingredient... DO not use Acne-make up because it dries out the skin.

Also try to get on a oral pill you can take AND birth control (it helps soooo much)

There is no need to use harsh chemicals on your face because I promice they WONT work and they will just DRY out your skin. They are suppose to dry out pimples but they rarely work. You will have PIMPLES and DRY SKIN and it will look badddd..

Okay... I have had experience with this because I made mistakes too.. I no longer use harsh chemicals...

When your face eventually becomes NOT dry, then you can get off the moisturizing face wash and face cream and just use the older Noxzema. It helps pimples but has no harsh ingredients.

Do not ever use a face wash that has acne - fighting chemicals.

It will dry out your skin... Once your face gets moisturized which will take a few months of daily treatment..... Then just try Noxzema and NO pimple creme and NO pimple fighting face wash.

Just try birth control or meds from the doctor! Plus wash your face twice daily... Never use acne fighting face wash because you will have dry skin yet again....

Vasaline works sooo well and moisturizing creme also. Try hard not to wear make up for a while, and if you do you will need to use the kind that will not dry out your skin and not cause pimples like a moisturizing one and wash your face afterwards....

I can not fathom ever ever putting vasaline of any kind on my face.  Dear Lord, that would be the death of me.  It clogs the pors and causes acne.  For me anyway.
