scalp acne

My boyfriend has bulging pus-filled white bumps all over his scalp.They hurt when touched.  There are hairs coming up out of each one of them- some of them look like they have 2 hairs coming out  as though perhaps its ingrown hairs or just multiple hairs in the same follicle causing a problem. Some are red around the edges of the white bumps, but some are not.

Is this acne? How would he best treat it?  Is it ok/beneficial for him to pop them, or is this a bad idea?

Hi. Acne vulgaris commonly occurs on the face, chest and back. Although it is possible for the odd pimple to grow anywhere, this sounds more like a follicular conditon. He should see his doctor for a definite diagnosis and treatment, probably with a medicated foam.
Popping any type of spot should be avoided. This seldom improves the appearance and will spread bacteria under the skin leading to future breakouts. Squeezing spots can also lead to a secondary infection, making diagnosis more difficult.
