tetracyclin

l have a face severe facial rash and pimple about a year ago.l went to a dermatologist and he said it was acne and gave me 100 tablets of tetracyclin,to take 3 times a day.l swallowed about half of them and the skin was smooth,so l stoped. Now my skin is having the same problem.l started taking tetracyclin again, but now 2 times a day.is it wrong to continue with a dose that l have taken and stoped?should l have completed the 100 tablets and maybe the acne wouldnt come back?

Hi. Oral antibiotics do not 'cure' acne, you may require repeat prescriptions for as long as you are prone to acne. Tell your doctor you relapsed and let him know you are taking the tetracycline again so he can monitor you for any possible side effects. I take oxytetracycine and Diane35, an antiandrogen birth control pill which is good at clearing acne. I also use a synthetic retinoid gel called Differin which dermatologists have found to be the most effective topical prescription acne gel, especially when used in conjunction with an oral treatment.
Treatment shoud be continued for 3-4 months after you're acne has cleared. Then withdraw the treatment and if you find you have not yet outgrown the acne speak to your doctor about recommencing treatment. Eloise x

my doctor had told me to stop taking the tetracyclin that the dermatologist had given me,because l am planning to get pregnant and instead gave me a liquid substance called Dalacin to apply on the face twice a day.l usually apply it when the rash gets severe, but  l really dont see any results.(l am also taking a hormonal tablet called pregotime to help me get ovulation so that l can get pregnant)

Hi. Sorry didn't realise why you had to stop taking it from your post.
Your acne may become worse because you are taking a hormonal tablet. The good news is that when you become pregnant your skin will probably improve due to the change in hormone levels. My skin was great when I was expecting. My acne returned after delivery, and I recommenced the anti-androgen pill 21 days after my son's birth as I did not breast feed.
Use the Dalacin-T as directed even on the days you don't have acne, and be patient even the most effective treatments take 4-8 weeks to work.
