underground acne

hello. my 15 year old daughter has a large patch of deep underground white heads on her forehead..she has had these for over 4 months. it is virtually her only acne besides an occasional blackhead. she tried differin but it was too drying. our pediatrican just called in Minocin for her..is this the best acne medicine for acne like this? small white zits that you don't really squeeze as nothing comes out. tons of them...probably 100 on her forehead and that's the only place they are.

Hi. If drying occurs when using Differin the patient should use a bland cleanser and moisturiser such as Cetaphil or La Roche-Posay.
Minocin contains minocycline (a tetracycline antibiotic) and acne usually responds well to this. It can take about 8 weeks to see an improvement so encourage your daughter to stick with it and follow the instructions exactly.
Most people outgrow acne since it is caused by a sensitivity to the effects of androgens (common during puberty). However stonger treatments are available should your daughter's tendency to acne persist.
