what causes acne?

i would really want to know what causes acne? and how can i prevent it?

Hi. Acne is caused by raised androgen levels. Androgens are male hormones which occur in both male and female bodies. Androgens stimulate the sebaceous (oil) glands in the skin. Pores become blocked with excess oil and bacteria which feeds off this oil, leading to spots. It is very common to have more androgens than your body needs during teenage years.
The best ways to control acne are:
i) A course of oral antibiotics such as Oxytetracycline 250mg twice a day. These kill acne-causing bacteria on the skin.
ii)Topical antibiotic preparations such as Duac gel or Dalacin-T lotion.
iii)Topical retinoids such as Retin-A or Differin gel.
iv)Combined oral contraceptive pills (females only) to regulate hormone levels.
