Hi. Days or weeks after contracting the HIV virus, patients may develop flu-like symptoms. They may have a fever, muscle and joint pain and swollen lymph nodes. There is sometimes an enlargement of the spleen (an organ to the left of your stomach).
A rash may develop with pink to deep red spots and small solid slightly raised areas of skin.
If you think you may have been exposed to HIV abstain from further sexual contact or sharing needles. Get tested as soon as possible as early detection and treatment will greatly improve your future health. Please see our HIV forums as well.
Best Wishes, Eloise.
