There are many acupuncturists in the U.S. who own and prescribe raw herbs (as opposed to an herbal pharmacy using tinctures or patent medicines). To find an acupuncturist in your area, you can check the NCAAOM website or go to acufinder.com. From there, you can call and ask which type of herbs they dispense. Or, if you live in a city where there is a China town, often there are Chinese herbal medicine stores where you can consult with an herbalist on the spot.
I mentioned herbal store in Chinatown that I no longer use, but I am taking some Chinese herbs that are from Taiwan (prescribed by an alternative medicine MD). They are very helpful.
You must also be concerned with interactions if you're taking any pharmaceuticals. Hopefully the herbalist will be up to date, but if not, contact your local pharmacist before you combine anything.

However you must be careful about the herbs you purchase. A well-known Chinese herbal store in New York's Chinatown was found to have some of its herbs contaminated with lead. I used to patronize that store and am now at a loss as to where to go.
