AIRLINE SECURITY & PRESCRIPTION MEDS

AIRLINE SECURITY & PRESCRIPTION MEDS

Hi everyone!

I'll be flying to Dallas next week for training for my new job.  I haven't flown by plane since last October, and am not up to date w/current airline security rules.  (Flew chopper w/no security)

I plan to bring ambien.  I don't have a script.  My mom has a script, and doesn't take it and gives the whole bottle to me.  That would be the only script med I would bring, except for my harmones.

Can I carry a bottle that is in someone's else's name?  Would I get busted?  Should I put it in my suitcase or my purse?

Step2Make sure all medication is properly labelled in your name. If it is not in your name the airline screeners will make inquiries, which could impact your ability to take the medication or even to travel.

this is what I found quickly in a google search

Nauty, the ambien is not in my name.  It's in my mom's.  I have power of attorney w/her if that makes a difference????  Proof of papers if they bust me for meds w/o my name on bottle.

Paul..............Are you sure?  What if I only took about 5 ambien pills w/me, and not in the bottle?  Then I'm in trouble?  I'm trying to pack super light.  The pills are tiny, but the bottle isn't.

what about putting them in your purse and putting the ambien pills in with your hormone pills?  I've never had them search my purse to see what my medications were at the airport before.  Just a suggestion.  I don't know if it would work or not?

I would put the ambien in the bottle with your hormones and carry the bottle in your purse.  I fly quite a bit and have never had my prescription bottles checked and I have been wanded more times that I care to count.(had to dump my purse,  one time the underwire in my bra went off! so I had to go with 2 female TSA'a in another room and remove my blouse!)  Must be the blonde hair and blue eyes that creates such a security concern.  The only time I have seen  or read of a problem with meds is if you are flying internationally, and then they do check your bottles , what they contain, the script name ,etc.

All that being said, quitte honestly, if you were pulled over for a traffic violation and the officer noticed a prescription bottle that did not have your name on it, you would be in trouble.  Using someone else's prescription, even your mother's, is not a good idea.  That is why they have those little lables on the bottle stating it is against the law to do so.

Yes they do check sometimes and there have been people that have gotten introuble for it . If its not your drug and a bottle with your name I would not take it .

From my experience I have never had airport screener (domestic or international) inquire about my meds. I've had them in metal screw-top containers (unmarked), zip lock bags, etc. I travel all the time, never had an issue nor heard of any, but if you worried, leave them behind. You can call the airline as well..

I had a bottle of something a couple weeks ago (can't remember what it was now that I think about it) in my wife's name...traveled to Atlanta..nobody every said a word.  A couple times we've travelled out of the country (Jamaica/Bahamas) and had all our meds in a clear plastic bag (in their bottles)..I don't think they ever even looked at them

One thing to be careful about is that if your mother is getting her medications and not using them, but giving them to you - it is insurance fraud (that's if her insurance company is paying for them).  So, you might want to see about getting an actual script from your doctor.

But, as for the airport, I agree with LateAugust.

Maybe you have a script botte with your name on it for something?  Maybe u can put them in that?  I can't imagine them checking every med bottle for name and what it is??

good luck.

I do, but I'm just going to bring the orginal bottle w/mom's name on it, and only 5 pills in it.

Bull S, I take care of my elderly mom, so having a bottle of her meds in my purse isn't really unusual.

Don't know why I'm so paranoid.  I never gave a care before my detox.

Thanks.

i travel quite a bit also.  i keep my prescription meds in my purse...just in case my suitcase gets lost.  i have had my purse "checked" several times (once because they thought my clothes roller was a weapon...lol).  NEVER have they even picked up the pill bottle to see what was in it.
